Special chairs, Zoom calls, relaxed clothing, and homemade coffee. These are all accouterments and features of something the nation has become used since 2020 while working from home. However, as more calls are made for the nation to return to the office, there are concerns about what working from home has done to the nation's health.
When the first national Covid lockdown began in March 2020 millions of people were plunged into uncertainty about their future as whole sections of the economy ground to a halt. Meanwhile, thousands began the process of adjusting to working from home full-time. From spending more time with family to saving money, employees began to notice several benefits of not going into the office. However, while there were some positives, health provider Bupa has warned working from home may not have been an entirely beneficial action for the country.
According to the health provider, one fifth of people who worked from home exercised less and a third started to eat more. The combination of these two actions has meant a number of people have lost fitness and seen their risk of cardiovascular disease increase.
Furthermore, data also shows half of people have not visited their GP in the past year and around 60 percent have not had a dental check-up. As a result, there are concerns the nation’s health has suffered with experts saying it could “be some time” before the UK recovers.
